Christmas night, no reservations at all, two people go out in Tokyo to try to find a reasonable place to eat. Sounds like a very low chance of success, right?

Well, here's what happened.

Previously that night, my friend had gone to Ueno, and reported that it was absolutely packed. When I first came to Tokyo, I had my neat new Camera that I bought in Akita, but never really had a chance to use. This was mostly due to the fact that I lost the camera almost immediately after moving in to my apartment here. Due to that, I haven't been able to take any 'real' pictures, only just ones from my phone. The result was a lot of blurry photos.

Hopefully that will change. I've been told by an equally large amount of people that Monjyayaki isn't as good. I've also heard things like, "People from Tokyo like Monjyayaki, but people from Osaka like Okonomiyaki."

Tompooya, 「東風家」advertises itself as an Ethnic Asian restaurant. This really just means that it has a combination of Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (plus probably some others) food. This place was absolutely amazing, and I'm honestly surprised it was in Nihombashi.

In this part of Tokyo, there's three main things. Karaoke, massage parlors, and pubs. I picked up four of the new(ish) beers that I saw today in the store, rather than get 4 of my beloved Ebisu. Japan loves to do seasonal things (clothing, food, beer), so I thought I would just give these new ones a try. Worst thing that could happen is that they would be non-alcoholic. To prevent this from happening, I made sure to check the labels. On to the beer!

One thing that has confused and bothered me since I arrived in Japan this time, was learning how adamant Japanese corporations are about transferring people after a set amount of time. I've spoken with countless salary-men about this issue, and have experienced people in my own company being (what I see as) needlessly shuffled around, simply due to tradition.

One of the hawkers handing out fliers for restaurants got the attention of one of us, and actually convinced us to try out his place.

This was a place that was bound to have an abundance of international ATMs where I could withdraw money from my accounts in the states and convert it to yen. After living in the rural north-western portion of Tokyo for two years, I got a bit bored of the atmosphere. Before I made it to Japan for my study abroad program, I had a good friend that I would speak to almost daily. She lived in Japan, and she would tell me a lot about things in her area of the country. She lived in Touhoku, the north-east part of Japan. At the time, I had no idea what that actually meant, so when I came to visit Tokyo I suggested that we hang out.

After about a few months of being in Japan, I would show some of my friends in school my U.S. driver's licence. After all, simply getting a driver's licence in Japan is exponentially more expensive than it is in the states, and on top of that it's not even necessary to get around. If you need to get some place, chances are pretty good there's a bus, or a train that goes from point A to point B.

Shigoto「仕事」is a Japanese word for work. In American English, we rarely specify the difference between full-time and part-time work. However, in Japanese, the two are never used interchangeably.
